We have a maximum of 2 people per session, this gives us the time and space to tailor the course to your needs and be really hands on.

 You will learn how to draft a simple kimono style jacket pattern from your measurements in the morning and after a bite to eat (supplied by us) you will cut your pattern out and start to sew it together in a choice of denim or washed canvas.

 We finish sewing at around 4pm, leaving you time to enjoy the bell tent, meadow and double hammock or to take a short drive into market town Bury St Edmunds with its famous market and historic abbey, to sample the very many restaurants and local pubs. We do recommend booking dinner if you plan to go into Bury.

Your teacher, Lucy, has been working in the fashion industry as a pattern cutter for about 17 years. You will have seen her work in all types of places, from the supermarkets to the catwalks, as well as on any pattern development work for The Workshop. She has two young children and lives in the Suffolk countryside, but pops up to London for work and inspiration.

 You will spend the nights under canvas in our beautiful bell tent with cosy double bed. We have a fire pit, stargazing hammock and a little hut with basic cooking facilities. The living and sleeping quarters are located at the top corner of our meadow, your posh bathroom (proper flushing loo and rainfall shower) is near the entrance to the field, at the bottom corner, a short walk straight across the field,

 Directly behind the meadow we have gated access to a disused railway line for walks and (though we’ve never found one) geocaches! Next door, and backing on to the meadow is water lane reservoir, a small fishing lake.

 Our courses start at 10am leaving you time for quick trip to local farm shop Hennessy for one of their famous bacon sausage and egg baps, or a more leisurely coffee and bring-your-own-breakfast on site.

This is a place to recharge physically and mentally, so when you’re not busy creating, we hope you will relax, reconnect with nature and watch the clouds float by.

Prices;
